In vivo measurements of D-9 desaturation of myristic, palmitic, and stearic acid in lactating dairy cattle A method is described for assessing the activity of D-9 desaturase in vivo. A mixture of the three 1-13 C acids was infused into a cow over 24 hours or infused into the abomasums as a bolus ove

Fatty acid composition of follow-on infant milks
This paper reports a study of the fatty acid composition of 16 "follow on infant milks" used during the weaning period. The milks were all purchased in Turkey but manufactured in Germany or Switzerland as well as in Turkey. Many were global brands. The milks contained 250.3-256.1 mg/g of fatty acids including 8:0-22:0, oleic, elaidic, linoleic, and CLA with values given for all these acids in all the milks. The presence of short and medium chain acids and of elaidic acid indicates the presence of lauric oils and of partially hydrogenated fat. Elaidic acid is presumably a mixture of trans18:1 acids. The 16 milks do not differ greatly from one another in their fatty acid composition.
