Lipid biotechnology -industrially relevant production processes

This thorough review (160 references) provides a full account of the industrial processes which are or may potentially be used in the oleochemical industry including microbial and algal biofuel, enzymatic biodiesel synthesis, glycerol-based intermediates, and microbial bio-oxidation processes. This is followed by an account of the application of enzymes in the production of esters, biosurfactants, sphingolipids, nutritionally relevant fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, , designer lipids', margarine, carotenoids, and aroma compounds. Chemical processes still dominate the oleochemical industry but enzymes play an increasing part.
