The gas-phase ion-molecule equilibrium reaction N20++N20+M~NzO+N20+
M was studied as a function oftemperature.
The enthalpy and entropy ofreaction, determined from the van 't Hoff plot, are: AH'= -18.5 + 0.8 kcal/mol and AS'= -25 + I A cal/mol K. The enthalpy of reaction reported here implies a much higher bond energy than those reported previously from both ion-molecule equilibrium and photoionization studies. The result reported here, however, is in excellent agreement with a recent ab initio calculation.
