A procedure is described for radiolabeling proteins in vitro by reductive alkylation. The proteins are treated with [W]formaldehyde in the presence of sodium cyanoborohydride, a reducing agent that is stable in aqueous solution at pH 7. The advantage of this procedure is that the reaction can be car
