Abstract

Triethylgermylpentafluorobenzene C~6~F~5~GeEt~3~ reacts with CF~3~SO~3~H, HSO~3~Cl, Me~3~SiOSO~2~Cl, chlorine, bromine, Cl~2~/AlCl~3~, or Br~2~/AlBr~3~ with cleavage of the C~aryl~Ge bond. Cesium fluoride promotes electrophilic degermylation of C~6~F~5~GeEt~3~, possibly via the intermediate formation of a tetraorganylfluorogermanate.
