In a search for a method of synthesis of a,/3 -unsaturated carbonyl compounds, we have turned our attention to the reactions of acyl anion equivalent^^-^, namely carbanions of 2-(dia1kylamino)aryla~etonitriles~ with acetylenes. It is well known that organometallic rea-gents5 as well as C-H acids, in the presence of base add to acetylenes giving C-vinyl derivatives.
