โฆ Synopsis
The reaction between ozone and carbon monoxide was reinvestigated in the range of 80-160ยฐC. The previously reported rate law -d[O,l/dt = k.[o,][Co] + k,[0,l2 was confirmed and simulated using a mechanism based on an impurity-initiated chain reaction. When the CO was sufficiently purified, k, tended to zero and k. reduced to the value expected for the thermal decomposition of 03. Subsequent reactions of 0 atoms with CO produced chemiluminescence which was used to measure k, for 0 + CO 5 C02(3Bz) as exp[ -(1630 ? 325)/T] cm3 molecule-' s-'. The implications of this are discussed.

## Abstract The reaction of hydrogen atoms with diazomethane was used as a source of methyl radicals to study the reaction of oxygen atoms with methyl radicals. This investigation verifies directly the earlier results that formaldehyde is a major product and that the rate constant is greater than 3
