✦ Synopsis

The Raman spectrum of the CdCIa-KCI system in the liquid state was investigated using the mercury blue (24358 A) and green (45461 A) lines as the exciting radiation. Four Raman peaks were recorded for the liquid CdC1,-KC1 (50 mole ~o KC1). The assignment of the recorded peal~s in the liquid state was made from a comparison of the results obtained for the corresponding solid system using unpolarized and polarized mercury light, as follows: 257 4-2 cm -t vl(A1), 211 4-6 cm -t 1,z(A1), 245 4-3 cm -x ~s(E) and 177 4-5 cm -1 v,(E). No shift in the vl(At) frequency occurred with change of liquid composition in the range observed (33-66 mole Vo KCI). It is concluded that the pyramidal CdCls-is the predominant complex ion in the molten CdCI2 containing KCI in the composition range investigated.
