✦ Synopsis

A quartz microbalance was used to determine the cathodic deposition of lead (5 4 pg l-'-O 3 mg I-') and copper (16 wg l-*-O 7 mg I-') from ddute solutions It was found that the removal of lead can be nearly complete when the total amount m the solution does not exceed the monolayer capacity of the electrode Sunultaneously anth the formation of this monolayer, Au-Pb alloys are formed These alloys also form when the electrode IS held at a UPD (under potential deposition) potential They were ldenttied by electron diffraction as Au,Pb, AuPb, and AuPb, The alloy formation can easdy be detected from anodlc stnppmg curves With copper solutions, the deposition IS quantltatnre throughout the exanuned range of concentrations In contrast to the lead deposrtlon, mainly bulk copper was formed m addltlon to &-Au alloys

The removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions is of great importance. A new method of electrochemically assisted removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions is presented. Composite polypyrrole films with cation-exchange properties were synthesized on the electrode surface. The uptake of
