The energetics and lifetimes of a number of substituted oletin and diene triplets have been measured using photoacoustic calorimetry. All the acyclic triplets studied have triplet energies less than their spectroscopic values. This suggests they prefer a twisted relaxed geometry.
A general method based an a relative actinometry using the laser flash spectroscopy technique has been developed for the determination of the quantum yield of trip!et state formation $T. &l-values for 17 aromatic compounds in cyclohexane or benzene at room temperature have been obtained in good agre
