✦ Synopsis
A 5 hlcV proton accelerator hhs been used for pulse radiolysis of organic gases. The transient spectra obtained from the alkanes methane, ethane, propane. n.butanc and neopentane have tentatively been assigned to alkyl radicals. Some methodological aspects of this new technique are discussed.

Carbon monoxide has been irradiated with intense pulses of 1 MeV electrons and two transient absorption spectra have been observed. One of these consisted of a series of bands extending from 5000 -8500 b and the second a single line at 2479 A. The species giving rise to the band system is probably C
