โœฆ Synopsis

Ten percent glycerol prevented the usual precipitation of human serum very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL) at their isoelectric points during their preparative isoelectric focusing (IEF). IEF separated VLDL and LDL into two major fractions. The observed optical density peaks are not artifacts caused by binding of Ampholines to VLDL or LDL since no radioactivity accumulated in the fractions containing VLDL or LDL during IEF in the presence of [W]Ampholine, and gel filtration completely separated the lipoproteins from [W]Ampholine.

These results suggest that IEF may separate subspecies of VLDL and LDL under suitable experimental conditions.

Serum pseudocholinesterase (PChE) was discovered in 1932. Since this protein mimics many of the catalytic properties of acetylcholinesterase, it has traditionally been referred to as PChE, even though its true biological function is unknown. Serum PChE is synthesized in the liver and secreted into t

Rinsing of gradient composite acrylamide/agarose gels with 1% Triton X-100 permits the efficient electrotransfer of very-low-density and low-density lipoproteins from the gels and does not appear to interfere with subsequent capture of the lipoproteins by charged nylon membranes. Excess cholesterol (CHL) was incorporated into serum lipoproteins by incubation with Cefiteยฎ-dispersed CHL or CHL crystals. The initial rates of uptake were 15 and 7 tool CHL/ tool lipoprotein x h -t for low (LDL) and high (HDL) density lipoprotein, respectively. Saturation values were obtained afte
