✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A method is described for small‐scale laboratory simulation of the industrial process for the manufacture of guazatine, an agrochemical fungicide comprising a mixture of guanidated di‐, tri‐, and poly‐amines derived from octamethylenediamine. The product has been prepared with carbon‐14 labelling of the terminal positions of the octamethylene chains. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

## Abstract 1,17‐Bisguanidino‐9‐azaheptadecane triacetate(Guazatine)has been prepared with carbon‐14 labelling of the guanidine carbon atoms, by interaction of 1,17‐diamino‐9‐azaheptadecane with S‐methyl‐ ^14^C ‐isothiouronium sulphate. The initial product was purified by precipitation as the carbo

The sulfonamide potentiator ormetoprim (6) has been prepared with a carbon-14 label for use in biolo ical studies. The key intermediate, 2-methylveratraldehyde (4, was prepared by 14CO2 carbonation of the Grignard reagent from 2-bromo-4,5dimethoxytaluene (1) followed by esterification, reduction an
