## Abstract A procedure for the conversion of 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylglutaric anhydride to methyl 3‐methyl‐3‐butenoate forms the basis for a convenient synthesis of 3‐[^2^H~3~]methyl‐3‐buten‐1‐ol.
