4 : 2'-Dihydroxy-2 : 5'-dimethyldiphenylmethane (XIII) .-This compound was synthesized as above from 6-chloro-4-methylol-m-cresol and 9-cresol, and the intermediate chlorodicresylmethane was reduced, without purification, with Raney alloy. Recrystallization of the final product from benzene afforded
