## Abstract The ^13^C NMR spectra of eight triterpenes are recorded and all carbon shifts have been assigned. The data are in agreement with the structures assigned to the rare lupanediol, lupβ20(29)βeneβ3Ξ±,23βdiol, and other lupane triterpenes isolated from the Sri Lankan __Glochidion__ species (E

β¦ Synopsis
The authentic triterpene lactones 3 and LO_ of the lupane series were obtained by a chemical degradative sequence frn betulinic acid. Canparison of CD spectra of 2 and LQ with those of the lactones 2% and Il_a_ provided additional evidence for their revised formulation.
Acetyl betulinic acid on mercuric acetate oxi, dation gave a tertiary _6-lactone which, initially assigned C-23, 13-Lactone structure1 1, has been revised2

It has been suggested that the sign of the circular dichroism (CD) maximum (C=O at 220-230 run) of the Y-lactones might be determined by the two factors. That is, configuration at C-2 (1) (2-(S)-configuration gave positive sign and 2-(R)-configuration gave negative sign) and the conformation of the
A series of sugar amino acids, based on open chain sugars, have been oligomerised and cyclised. The resulting cyclic carbopeptoids have been examined for desirable properties such as host-guest chemistry (as in cyclodextrins) or self-assembling properties (e.g., peptide nanotubes). Initial studies o
