The magnetic circular dichroism (MCD), induced circular dichroism (ICD) spectra, and the absorption spectra of N-bromophthalimide have been measured. The ICD spectrum of the b-cyclodextrin complex with Nbromophthalimide is also reported. The absorption bands of N-bromophthalimide are assigned. Intr

✦ Synopsis
T h c magnetic circular dichroism spectra of a numbcr of indolc alkaloids show two B-tcrms of opposite sign in thc 250-330 nni wavelength region associated with the l L b and lL, clectronic transitions, thc long ivavelength, lLt,, band being of positive sign, whereas both bands strongly ovcrlap in absorption. S'arious substituents in different positions of the indolc ring cause a red shift of both bands and a broadcning of tlic 1011g wuvclength B-tcrin. 'The sign pattern, however, remains unchanged in all examplcs thus far invcstigatctl. Dihydroindolc and oxindolc, on the other hand, exhibit MCD. bands with the oppositc sign sequcnce as compared t o the indolc chromophore. This obscrvation allows identification of the indolc chromophoi-c in alkaloids from the sign pattern of tlic MCD. bands.

The magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and electronic absorption spectra of tropothione have been measured. The circular-dichroism (CD) spectrum of the P-cyclodextrin complex with tropothione is also reported. The absorption bands of tropothione are assigned.
## Abstract The magnetic circular dichroism and UV. spectra of 2‐methyl‐1, 3‐diazaazulene (**2**) have been measured. The UV. spectrum is interpreted by making use of CNDO/S MO CI calculations. Our assignment of the first and second absorption band coincides with one of the corresponding bands of 1
