✦ Synopsis


This paper

presents a theoretical method to predict the compressive strength of sulfur-infiltrated concrete (SIC) as the sulfur loading varies.

The method is based on two hypotheses, introduced in this paper, on the mechanism of sulfur infiltration.

Equations have been derived to find the compressive strength of SIC for any duration of sulfur infiltration.

The application of the equations requires the determination of weights and stress-strain curves of concrete before any infiltration and after saturation with sulfur.

Experiments were conducted for testing the validity of the hypotheses and the equations, and excellent agreement was found among the results obtained experimentally and from the equations.
