Background and Objectives: Oral medicines of minocycline hydrochloride or roxithromycin, topical antibiotics of clindamycin phosphate or nadifloxacin, and/or chemical peelings are used for treating acne in Japan. However, many patients are not satisfied with current conditions and treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the 585nm long-pulsed dye laser for acne vulgaris patients. Study Design/Materials and Methods: 18 patients (2 male, 16 female) received at 3 or 4 weeks intervals utilizing a 585nm long-pulsed dye laser (V-STAR, Cynosure Inc, Chelmsford, MA) with air cooling. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the satisfaction rating, and digital photographs were used to evaluate facial erythema and count of eruption (papules, pustule, and nodules) at visit after 2 times treatment and up to 4 weeks after the final treatment. Results: 84% of the patients answered to be satisfied with this treatment more than previous therapy. There was significant decrease in inflammatory acne in area treated with the 585nm long-pulsed dye laser (P<0.05). No adverse reaction was seen in this study. Conclusions: The 585nm long-pulsed dye laser is considered to be one of the options to treat acne vulgaris from our experiment.
