Chromosome fragile sites are inducible by aphidicolin in cultured human lymphocytes. To assess the frequency and distribution of these common fragile sites in the general population, a cytogenetic survey was performed on 126 subjects, 59 males and 67 females, whose age ranged from 1 day to 72 years.

Population cytogenetic data on autosomal fragile sites show differences among different ethnic groups. The Basques are a n ancient population; their origin is not exactly known and many studies using several traits have shown peculiarities in the Basques. This is the first study about the incidence
