## Abstract Both epididymal and ejaculated spermatozoa give usable rates of fertilization of superovulated oocytes in vitro. The epididymal sperm gave higher rates, but ejaculated sperm were preferred because intraβdonor variation was lower than interβdonor variation. A selected population of 14 ma

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
The time sequence of the mechanisms that prevent polyspermy in cumulusβfree mouse eggs was determined by continuous microscopic observations during in vitro fertilization. The zona reaction had begun, and the vitelline surface block to polyspermy was established, in less than one minute following sperm fusion with the vitellus. In less than five minutes, the zona reaction had advanced to the stage that no more spermatozoa could become firmly attached to the surface of the zona pellucida.

## Abstract Polyspermy is a common phenomenon in the pig. Extensive information has become available from in vitro studies on not only the quality of oocytes but also the quality of spermatozoa. However, little information is available on the relative penetration rates of fresh and frozen spermatoz

Effects of PKC z on the activation of embryonic transcription in 1-cell stage fertilized mouse eggs were explored. The effects of PKC antagonist calphostin C and PKC z specific inhibitor on the activation of embryonic early transcription were observed by Western blotting and cell immunofluorescence.
