✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, [Ni(C 5 H 3 N 6 ) 2 ] n , the Ni II atom is located on an inversion centre and exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry. The crystal structure features a two-dimensional square-grid-like network. The compound is isostructural with the iron(II) and cobalt(II) analogues, whose structures and magnetic properties have been reported [Rodrı ´guez, Kiveka ¨sb & Colacio (2005). Chem. Commun. pp. 5228-5230].
