โฆ Synopsis
The polarographic behavior of organomercury compounds has been studied by various workers 1 -5. Most of these investigators limit themselves to the study of homologous aliphatic mercury halides, acetates and sulphates. Some reports have also appeared for the reduction of aromatic-mercury halides and acetates a'4. These studies have indicated that phenymercuric halides, acetates, nitrates and borates are reduced at potentials more negative than the free mercury ions. Current interest in the oxymercuration of allenes 6-8 and the chemical reduction of the oxymercurated allenes encouraged us to investigate the reduction of vinylic organomercury compounds at the dropping mercury electrode. The present paper reports on the polaro-* Presented at the X Seminar on Electrochemistry held at Karaikudi, India, Nov. 25-28, 1969. ** To whom the correspondence should be directed. *** The n.m.r, study indicates that the configuration of the organomercurials is cis.
