✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A novel planar‐diversity folded‐dipole antenna, comprising two back‐to‐back folded dipoles separated by a central ground plane, is proposed. Experimental results of a constructed prototype suitable for WLAN operation in the 5‐GHz band, such as the 5.2‐GHz (5150–5350 MHz) and 5.8‐GHz (5725–5875 MHz) bands are presented. The radiation patterns of the two folded dipoles are directional in two complementary half spaces, and thus are capable of providing spatial diversity in order to mitigate the multipath interfering problem for WLAN operation. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
