Abstract
A novel two‐element metal‐plate antenna arranged in a compact geometry and easily constructed from a single metal plate is presented. The antenna shows a high antenna‐gain level (> 4.0 dBi) and is suitable for WLAN operation in the 5.2/5.8‐GHz bands (5150–5350 MHz/5725–5875 MHz). The antenna‐gain level obtained can even be larger than 5.0 dBi for practical applications where the antenna is required to be placed in close proximity to a large metal plate, such as the metal plate or metal frame used to support the display of a laptop. Details of the proposed antenna design and obtained experimental results are presented. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract A compact dual‐WLAN‐band antenna, in the shape of a paper clip, is presented. The antenna can be easily manufactured by bending few times a single copper wire with a length of about 65 mm, and it operates in the 2.4 and 5.2 GHz bands in the WLAN environment. In addition to the simple co
