The primary photodissociation of dibenzyl ketone (DBK) to form the benzyl radical is examined by picosecond transient absorption (PTA) spectroscopy. This initial process precedes decarbonylation of the phenacetyl radical. Dissociation is initiated at 282 nm in solutions of methanol and cyclohexane a
