β¦ Synopsis
The phase relaxation of the normal vibrational mode is investigated using single picosecond pulses. A dephasing time of 75 r 8 psec is measured in good agreement with spontaneous linewidth data.

The Raman linewidths of the carbon-halogen stretching mode in several halobenzenes were measured as a function of temperature and in dilute cyclohexane solution\_ It was found that, as in an earlier investigation on haloalkanes, the vibrational relaxation efficiencies, pi;',, vary in the order Cl >
