โœฆ Synopsis

A method is introduced to a) distinguish phytoplankton organisms from organic matter and b) ease its determination by staining protein structures with Coomassie Brilliant Blue G.

An important criterium characterizing aquatic systems is the qualitative and quantitative determination of phytoplankton. An improved method was introduced by UTERMOHL (1958) fixing algae using JtKJ and counting them after sedimentation in specific sedimentation chambers. After two hours of sedimentation algae are determined and counted using an inversed microscope. In practice counting and determination of phytoplankton is severely effected by various factors.

An automatic method for the protein assay using Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250 was developed and applied to the assay of urinary proteins. In developing the automatic system, the adhesion of protein-bound dye to the walls of the flow cell and tubes was found to be the most troublesome problem, by wh
