โฆ Synopsis
The excited triplet states of 1,3-cyclodienes produced by photosensitization are studied by time-resolved ESR at 77 K. The zerofield splitting (ZFS) constants of 1,3-cyclodienes are influenced by the change of the molecular framework. Simple Hiickel MO calculation provides qualitative aspects of ZFS constants against the twisting in conjugated parts of dienes.

Dynamics of MBBA (N-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-4-n-butylaniline) in ethanol at a liquid-solid interface is selectively detected using the transient grating method with total internal reflection for probe light. The thermal grating signal decays much faster than that in bulk liquid. This faster decay is
Time-resolved ESR spectra have been observed for the lowest triplet states of s-transd,b'dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (s-transdmbpy), metal-free s-cis-dmbpy and [Zn(dmbpy) I'+ in rigid solutions at 77 K. The results indicate that, following the conformational change of dmbpy, the sublevel initially popu
The time-resolved thermal lens technique is used to measure quantum yields of triplet formation and triplet lifetime in the solid phase at low temperature. The time dependence of the thermal lens signal of pyridazine in the solid phase is very different from that in a fluid medium. These results are
Triplet-triplet absorption is sensitively detected by the time-resolved two-step excitation thermal grating method. This method provides zero-background detection of the transient absorption. As an example of the application, measurement of the quantum yield of energy transfer from the higher excite
