Cement cannot be completely separated from aggregate in the wet sieve analysis of fresh concrete mix. Aggregate fines pass through a fine sieve together with most of the cement while the coarse cement grains remain together with the washed aggregate. These values are determined by direct tests or ar

β¦ Synopsis
Gelatin was employed to experimentally determine differential settlement stresses in fresh concrete above reinforcing steel.
For a 15.9 n~m diameter reinforcing bar, the zone of influence and magnitude of the stresses appear to be related to the bar spacing, cover depth, and consistency of the mix. The tensile stresses produced above the reinforcing bars appears to be of sufficient magnitude to produce surface cracking of the concrete and thus may significantly affect the time to corrosion in bridge decks and other similar reinforced concrete structures.

Capillary pressure and plastic shrinkage have been measured simultaneously. The action of capillary pressure in fresh concrete is assumed to be the cause of plastic shrinkage. Characteristic results are presented to verify the essential statements of this hypothesis. The influence of water-cement ra
