✦ Synopsis

Cement cannot be completely separated from aggregate in the wet sieve analysis of fresh concrete mix. Aggregate fines pass through a fine sieve together with most of the cement while the coarse cement grains remain together with the washed aggregate. These values are determined by direct tests or are assessed by correction procedures. Existing correction procedures are systematically presented, with comments. The discussion refers to the actual correction procedures recommended by British Standard Institution and RAM method. The author's correction procedures are proposed. Their principles are: Coarse cement grains are considered as ~inert ~ material and their percentage increases the content of the fine aggregate. The correction procedure of aggregate fines is ~wtqpted to the mix heterogeneity and to aggregate grinding during mixing. This is why the cement/fines ratio after mixing has been chosen as a fixed mix parameter. The proposed procedures yield substantially greeter accuracy of results.

A numerical procedure for a dynamic non-linear finite element analysis is proposed here to analyse three-dimensional reinforced concrete shear wall structures subjected to earthquake motions. A shear wall is modelled as a quasi-three dimensional structure which is composed of plane elements consider
