✦ Synopsis

Photoacoustic measurements are descriied giving branching ratios for the I(2Pt,,) and 1(2P,,,) atom production following vapour-phase photolysis of CH3I. A range of excitation wavelengths are used from the long wavelength tail up to 248 MI. The presence of three bands is shown within the (I* 6x1 continunm; in the strong-coupling model these are E +A1 (I), A:+AI(U) and E+Al(l) with only the AT +A, transition giving e.xcited iodine atoms_

The 355 nm photodissociation of g+wous mctbyl nitrite has been studied by monitoring the nascent NO produet using B tx%o-photon laser-induced fluorescence technique. The nascent vibrational and rotational distributions have been measured: the NO fmgment is produced in four vibrational levels of the

A theoreticaf analysis of the dissociation of energy-rich triatomic molecules shows that asymmetric dissociation is expected to be the major decay mode. Both experimenti and computational (classical trajectories) results for the pbotofra~men~tion of Cd(CNs)z are in accord with the theoretical analys

Absolute electron-scattering total cross sections for methyl iodide have been measured at impact energies between 0.5 and 220 eV using a linear transmission method. The cross section increases rapidly as the energy becomes smaller than 1.5 eV, has a minimum (50X lO-zo m') around 2.5 eV followed by a
