Crosslinked polystyrene beads (prepared using 2 and 20% of divinylbenzene) were chemically modified to introduce benzoyl peroxide residues in which both of the aroyl groups were attached to the polymer backbone. Using these as initiators, methyl methacrylate and N,N-dimethylacrylamide were grafted o

โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
Modification of dextrin by tertโbutylperoxy methanol or its acylation with cyclic anhydride containing a peroxide group resulted in macroโinitiators with randomly located peroxide fragments in the polysaccharide.
When dextran was oxidized with iodic acid, dialdehydedextran was obtained. Its aldehyde groups reacted with tertโbutyl hydroperoxide to give functional peroxide groups. The content of peroxide fragments depended directly on the ratio of reagents.
The resulting macroโinitiators may be used for synthesizing graft copolymers with polystyrene on poly(butyl acrylate) containing polysaccharide.
