✦ Synopsis


The peel force as a function of displacement was determined for debonding inextensible adhesive strips with an extensible boundary constraint. Using differential energy balance methods, a closed form expression for the peel force was obtained and found to be in excellent agreement with experimental studies. A solution was obtained in terms of the adhesive fracture energy and a modulus parameter for the constraint. The analysis was applied to both loading and unloading deformation modes. Recovery phenomena in the rest state was discussed.
