✦ Synopsis

Conclusions about the passivation of rhodium have been obtained by studying the anodic and cathodic charging curves with solutions of HCIOl and/or HCl as electrolytes. The electrochemical surface. oxidation of rhodium causes passivation. In HClO, solutions this oxidation leads to the formation of monomolecular films of Rh,O, and/or RhOa, according to the polarizing potential. In solutions of HCl only the formation of RhaOI and adsorbed Cl atoms takes place.

Abstraet--Anodic corrosion of Ir in solutions of HCI proceeds through the formation of lrCle 2and IrCls2-ions; the formation of Ir(lll) tends to be more important at less positive potentials. This process requires a high overpotential and lr passivates easily by adsorbed oxygen. The polarization cur

Inhibition of the corrosion of iron in hydrochloric acid solutions by amino acids was studied. Twenty-two different common amino acids and four related compounds were used. Potentiodynamic polarization curves were obtained for iron wire in deaerated 1 M hydrochloric acid solution. Intersection of th
