For two example systems, controlled by either a linear controller or one of five fuzzy controllers (with different defuzzification procedures), responses to step functions are presented in time and in frequency space to qualitatively judge and select the most appropriate defuzzification procedure. ✦ Synopsis
The fuzzy partition validity is a necessary measure to ÿx the number of groups in the fuzzy algorithms which need to know this data. We propose a measure based on the membership probabilities. Moreover, we propose a new concept of the hard partition based on the metric of the groups. The hard partition can be obtained from the fuzzy partition, from which it is possible to ÿnd the hard membership probabilities and the hard partition validity. A similarity relation is proposed over the set of groups belonging to the hard partition.

In this paper, we contribute to the theory and development of defuzziÿcation techniques. First we deÿne the core of a fuzzy set. Then we formulate a set of criteria for defuzziÿcation in arbitrary universes, ordered universes, and the set of the real numbers. Finally, we classify the most widely use
A problem of defuzziÿcation of a fuzzy test for testing statistical hypotheses with vague data is considered. Two defuzziÿcation operators are discussed. It is shown that the superposition of a fuzzy test and these operators leads to decision strategies equivalent to the classical crisp tests. Moreo
The paper deals with the approximation of the best deterministic choice (minimizing mean integrated squared error) of the parameter in naive kernel and cubic partitioning regression estimation by cross-validation. The result is essentially distribution-free.
