✦ Synopsis

Overvoltage measurements in the molten LiF-NaF-KF eutectic mixture, containing oxides, hydroxides and water in solution, were carried out by the galvanostatic single-pulse method in order to investigate the oxygen-and hydrogen-evolution reactions.

Experiments were. performed at 600Β°C on bright platinum electrodes with suitable oxygen or hydrogen electrodes as reference electrode.

The results account for the high values of solubility of water and hydrofluoric acid in molten alkali fluorides and give some insight into the kinetics of the oxygen-and hydrogen-electrode reactions.
