β¦ Synopsis
Inhomogeneous optical slab or channel wave-guides are
basic alternative for realization of the passive and active
devices and systems in the full-optical engineering domain.
Usually, the exact treatment for obtaining the reflected and
transmitted light is very hard and the numerical methods are used.
In this paper, we will investigate the optical filtering
properties of the exactly solvable large set of the inhomogeneous
index of refraction profiles. We show that tuning of the
inhomogeneous media length easily can control the bandwidth of our
proposed filter.

Inhomogeneous optical filter design based upon tapered transmission-line theory is described by deri¨ing an approximate spectral function from a nonlinear Riccati equation, which go¨erns the reflection characteristics of tapered lines. In this paper the problem how to obtain an effective dielectric function c\*(o)characterizing theoptical properties of heterogeneous media is reviewed. For grain sizes smaller than the wavelength of light the quasi-electrostatic problem can be formulated as an integral equation that allows the appli
The Cantor distribution of dielectric layers has recently found application in the design of guided-wa¨e optical or microwa¨e filters. In addition to the con¨entional fractal descriptors, we use the lacunarity of fractal filters as a new design parameter. Varying the lacunarity allows one to minimiz
