High quality Nd 3+ -doped Lu 2 SiO 5 (Nd:LSO) crystal has been grown by the Czochralski technique. The cell parameters were analyzed with X-ray diffraction (XRD). Room temperature absorption and fluorescence spectra and fluorescence lifetime of the Nd:LSO crystal were measured and analyzed. The Judd

## Abstract Yb^3+^‐doped Ca~4~Gd~0.5~Y~0.5~O(BO~3~)~3~ single crystals with good optical quality have been grown by the Czochralski method. The grown crystal was characterized using X‐ray powder diffraction. The polarized absorption and emission spectra and fluorescence lifetime of anisotropic mono
