✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The erbium‐doped fiber ring laser (EDFL) exhibits a wavelength shift that results from the variation of its intracavity parameters, namely, the output‐coupler reflectivity (R), active fiber length (L), and optical losses (α) in the resonant cavity. A simple and fast technique for predicting the operating wavelength of an EDFL is deduced. The operating wavelength shifts from ∼1530 to ∼1560 nm for higher values of R, longer L, and/or lower α, and vice versa. Data from numerical simulations show a good comparison with the experimental results. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 31: 105–107, 2001.

## Abstract A multi‐wavelength ytterbium‐doped fiber‐ring laser is obtained using a spatial‐mode beating filter, placing a section of a G.652 fiber sample into the single Yb‐doped fiber ring cavity. Up to six stable laser wavelengths can be obtained in the region of 1030 nm at room temperature. By
