✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A multi‐wavelength ytterbium‐doped fiber‐ring laser is obtained using a spatial‐mode beating filter, placing a section of a G.652 fiber sample into the single Yb‐doped fiber ring cavity. Up to six stable laser wavelengths can be obtained in the region of 1030 nm at room temperature. By changing the states of the polarization controller, the amount of lasing wavelength and the space can be controlled. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract The erbium‐doped fiber ring laser (EDFL) exhibits a wavelength shift that results from the variation of its intracavity parameters, namely, the output‐coupler reflectivity (R), active fiber length (L), and optical losses (α) in the resonant cavity. Selection of operating wavelength of the Yb-doped fiber-ring lasers using long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) is proposed. In the proposed method, customized LPFG that sustains high powers serves as a broad-band rejection filter. It modifies the net gain profile of the laser, enabling the peak gain t
