✦ Synopsis

A short wavelength band erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring
laser emitting simultaneously at 1488.9 and 1533.9 nm is
demonstrated. The erbium-doped gain fiber has a depressed cladding
to suppress emission at longer wavelengths. The shorter emitting
wavelength is selected by a fiber Bragg grating (FBG), while the
longer emitting wavelength is selected by the strong gain and the
reabsorbing effect. Switching between the two operating
wavelengths is realized by simply changing the bending curvature
of the EDF loop.

## Abstract A simple switchable dual‐wavelength Er‐doped fiber‐ring laser using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) written in high‐birefringence (HiBi) fibers is proposed. Due to the two‐peak reflections with orthogonal polarizations of the FBG, the polarization hole‐burning effect in the cavity is greatl
