The electrochemical oxidation of nitrite ion dissolved as sodium nitrite in dimethylsulphoxide on a rotating platinum disk electrode, in the temperature range 2544Β°C is reported. Main reaction products are NO\*. NO, NiO. and dimethylsulphone. The anodic E/I curve shows a limiting current which is di

β¦ Synopsis
Ahtract-The performance of porous Pt-containing H, electrodes is found to be itiuenced by masstransport effects. Pt-WO, electrodes are about twice as active as electrodes containing commercial R-C fuel cell catalysts in hydrogen oxidation. From our catalytic hydrogenation studies it follows tba1 this difference in performance needs not lo be caused by a synergistic effect between Pt and WO, with respect to H, oxidation. A more likely cause is a difference in effective conductivity, leading to reduced ohmic losses in Pt-WO, electrodes as compared with PtC electrodes.
During this study we also investigated systems related to Pt-WO, in hydrogen oxidation. No interesting catalysts were found, however.
