Based on measurements of differential scanning calorimetry, the first-order character of the spin-state transition in Fe(bt),(NCS), is established (bt = 2,2'-bi-2-thiazoline). The transition arises at T, ' =180.9 K and T,l =171.2 K, and is characterized by AH = 9.55 kO.7 kJ mol-' and AS = 54.5 \*4 J
