Polycrystalline samples of HgBa 2 CuO 4þd , one underdoped with T c ¼ 84 K, one optimally doped with T c ¼ 91 K and one overdoped with T c ¼ 54 K, were prepared at 800 C in sealed silica tube under controlled partial pressures of O 2 pðO 2 Þ and Hg pðHgÞ in three-zone furnance. Critical temperature
