General expressions relating the sedimentation and diffusion constants of polyelectrolytes to the friction properties of ionic components in multicomponent systems have been derived. A quantitative explanation of the charge effect with respect to the addition of a low-molecular-weight salt is given;

Nagasawa and Eguchis question the general validity of such eliminations. They find that, for sodium polystyrene sulfonate. the Mandelkern-Flory coefficient, which desczibes viscosity and sedimentation equations combined, varies with the ionic strength. The authors consider the viscosity equation reliable and blame the sedimentation for the discrepancy. Elsewhere, however, Takahashi et al.,6 working with the same system, find that at different ionic strengths the Flory coefficient determined from viscosity and light scattering does not remain const,ant either. The subject appears therefore to be open t o a further investigation.

## Synopsis The sedimentation coefficient sN of the DNA topoisomer with the linking number N is evaluated as a function of N and chain length on the basis of a (circular) twisted wormlike chain, i.e., a special case of the helical wormlike chain. Evaluation is carried out by an application of the
## Abstract Standardization in the calculation of the sedimentation coefficient of macromolecules by means of band techniques is discussed. When a sample of macromolecules suspended in a solvent is layered on to a denser bulk solution, the macromolecules do not sediment in this solution alone, but
The adsorption of two polyelectrolytes, poly-L-Glutamate and poly-L-Aspartate, on hydroxyapatite (HAP) crystals was studied both experimentally and theoretically. Langmuir adsorption isotherms were obtained for both these molecules, with binding constants K = 6 x 10(6) and 3 x 10(6) M-1, respectivel
