โฆ Synopsis
The quenching rate for 0('S) by 0(3P) into the O(lD) f O('D) channel is calculated using a theoretically calculated spin-orbit coupling matrh element. An upper bound to the rate is found to be 2.0 X IO-l4 cm3 S-I which is much smaller than the enperimenta! value. The low value of the rate constant is the result of a spin-orbit coupling matrix element of about 3 cm-' at the relevant curve cussing.
