We examine a report that emission can be observed from excited states of the uranyl ion, above that giving the usual green emission, in the light of new measurements. We can find no firm evidence for emission from such states.

Contrary to earlier observations a characteristic Iuminescence due to the CBHsNHg ion was observed. The ion at 80 K, gives a fluorescence similar to that of benzene and a phosphorescence similar to that of aGEne\_ The benzene type fluorescence changes to the aniline type on warming. It is suggested
