Abstract

Heat effects of precipitation of polyamide‐6 from m‐cresol solutions on adding methanol were measured by means of a microcalorimeter. The heat of precipitation depends on composition of the precipitating system. By means of weight method the kinetics of precipitation was investigated.

## Abstract Heat treatment of nylon 6,6 in the temperature range of 100–175Β°C in the presence and absence of a nonionic surfactant (Triton X‐100) had little effect on the physical properties of the nylon, although the density of the nylon increased with increasing heat treatment temperature. Melamine and its salts added to polyamide 6 (PA-6, nylon 6) improve its fire retardancy as measured by oxygen index and UL94 tests. The mechanism of the fire-retardant action of the additives was studied using thermogravimetry, kinetics of thermal decomposition and characterization of solid residues
