✦ Synopsis

A novel synthesis of the allene moiety of carotenoids was achieved by the regioselective ene reaction of the vinyl hydrogen rather than the allyl hydrogen of the significantly twisted 1,3-dienes, (3R)-alkoxy-cis-b-ionol derivative, followed by selective allyl rearrangement.

Two chalcone-derivative isomers, 4,4-diaminochalcone ( 4DAC ) and 3,3diaminochalcone ( 3DAC ), were synthesized and used as monomers together with tetracarboxylic dianhydrides to prepare novel photosensitive polyimides that contain a chalcone moiety in the main chain. Four novel dioxidomolybdenum(VI) complexes [MoO 2 (L x )-(CH 3 OH)] have been synthesized, using 2[(E)-(2-hydroxy-2phenylethylimino)methyl]phenol derivatives as tridentate ONO donor Schiff base ligands (H 2 L x ) and MoO 2 (acac) 2 . A monoclinic space group was determined by X-ray crystallography f
